When the bosses of Auckland Transport decided to pull out of a recent public meeting with the St Heliers residents, Phil Goff had to step in and suddenly show support for the people, something he hasn’t really done for over two years - and something that Lord firmly believes is a major part of the Mayor's job.
“Rolling the sleeves up just months out from an election and fighting for the people is typical of a Central Government politician - albeit former - and the public will see right through it” says Auckland Mayoral Candidate Craig Lord. “It’s too little, too late from Goff and he knows it.”
“Auckland Transport have shown for years that they have no real idea about how to solve the transport and parking issues, the feedback has proven this, the state of our roads has proven this and the congestion has cemented it. Now they are now making bizarre decisions that the people are fighting against. As soon as that starts to happen they sit in their offices scared to front up and Goff has to make one of his rare appearances.”
“The entire Auckland Transport system needs auditing, the public needs to be shown who is making the decisions and have those decisions justified. At the moment they spend tonnes of public money on great PR and fluff to tell everyone how awesome they are - and then they don’t have the guts to front up when they need too. Both Goff and Auckland Transport should be highly embarrassed.”
